Tues-Day 2

Physics - finished up the questions in the Energy packet.
Tomorrow test is on the Forces, Impulse-Momentum-Circular Motion, and Energy units.
The test has both multiple choice and written response questions, and will take 45 minutes.

AP Chem - finished up the molar mass of butane lab.

Friday, May 27, 2011

Fri-Day 1

Physics - worked on our Energy review packet. The remaining answers to this packet will be posted on Blackboard. The next unit review test covers Forces, Impulse-Momentum and Circular Motion, and Energy; the test is on next Wednesday, and will be given in just a single period (both multiple choice and a couple of written response).

50 point HW due Tuesday - do June 2008 Section B-1 : credit will be given ONLY for detailed work shown for each question, on separate paper, with keywords or data UNDERLINED/IDENTIFIED on the test paper.
For calculations, show the formula and substitution with units and cancellation.
For reasoning, state the concept or law and the how/why of your answer with drawing as appropriate.

Thurs-Day 2

Physics - continued to work on June 2008 part C, and then we began to look at the next review packet on Energy.
Bring in your textbook tomorrow!!

AP Chem - games. logic games.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Wednes-Day 1

Physics - we did the remaining part B-2/C type questions in the Impulse and Circular Motion packet, we finished up the Circular Motion review lab (please hand in by Friday), and we  did some part C questions in the June 2008 exam.

AP Chem - continued our molar mass of butane gas lab.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Tues-Day 2

Physics - finished up the Forces packet, and then we started the Impulse and Circular Motion packet.

AP Chem - began the molar mass of butane lab.

Monday, May 23, 2011

Mon-Day 1

Physics - we started the Forces packet. All questions in the packet that we did not get to in class should be done tonight for hw. Check your answers on Blackboard.
We started our next review lab on circular motion by reviewing the centripetal force requirement, and reviewing the sources of centripetal force.
A major Regents theme is to ask what measurements should be made on a given lab so be sure that you understand that type of question on all of our review labs. Ask if you are not seeing the solution.

AP Chem - finished up redox. Tomorrow we start our next lab.

Friday, May 20, 2011

Fri-Day 2

Physics - finished up the Projectiles packet, and the "Baseball" projectile lab.
The first 3 review labs should be handed in by now.

AP Chem - finished up our silver redox lab - the key was not to use too much ammonia in complexing the silver ion. The K values for metal ligand complexes are extremely large (over a trillion) so with too much ammonia, we were not getting an appreciable rate of the redox reaction with glucose.

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Thurs-Day 1

Physics - we finished the June 2010 Physics Regents by working on the part B-1 multiple choice section; complete and detailed answers to that Regents are now posted.

We worked on several written response questions in the Projectile Motion packet.
We finished up questions on the first two review labs, Vectors and Analysis of Motion.

AP Chem - started the silver redox procedure.

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Wednes-Day 2

Physics - finished up the Projectiles packet; complete solutions to this packet are now posted on Blackboard. Carefully check your work as preparation for Thursday/Friday's Review Exam that covers Vectors, (Straight-line) Motion, and Projectile Motion.

AP Chem - did the lab setup and calculations for the silver mirror redox lab.
Bring in bottles with CAPS or tight seals for Thursday/Friday.

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Tues-Day 1

Physics - did part B-1 of the June 2010 Physics Regents; many of these questions required careful reading and setup. Be wary that a significant number of Regents questions are like this; do not rush to get the answer to any question on the Regents. With proper setup, these problems become significantly easier.
We then did most of the part II questions from the Projectiles packet.

AP Chem - took the part I multiple choice part of the in-class final.

Monday, May 16, 2011

Mon-Day 2

Physics - we started the Projectile Motion review packet. The complete solutions to the Motion packet and the Vectors packet are on Blackboard; carefully check your work and seek help on anything that you are not confident about. We didn't get to the B1 section of the 2010 Regents, so we will finish that tomorrow.

AP Chem - had part II of our in class final. Thanks for keeping the streak going of nobody missing the AP exam or the final. Stay healthy.
Tomorrow, we will have the 35 questions part I multiple choice (no calculator).

Friday, May 13, 2011

Fri-Day 1

Physics - continued to work on the Motion packet; ALL answers to this packet (and the vectors packet) will be posted on Blackboard this weekend. Check your work. Our first review test will be later next week on the Vectors, Motion, and (forthcoming) Projectile Motion packets.
For whatever mistakes you may make for whatever reason in this review, it is important for you to learn how and why you made the mistake, and how and why you will not make the same error again (i.e. on the Regents). Be sure to ask questions/ send an email, make an appointment for extra help to clarify or reinforce anything that is causing difficulty for you.
On Monday, I will pass out a copy of  my answer key to the Modern Physics exam; it was obvious that some of you did not study at all for this exam; the problems were practically identical to the ones in the notes and posted practice tests on Blackboard; this was a blown opportunity, one that you need to correct for yourself before the Regents exam (the exam ends with this topic!).

AP Chem - in class final is on Monday and Tuesday.

Thursday, May 12, 2011

Thurs-Day 2

Physics - we finished up the June 2010 Regents, covering both test-taking skills and a variety of question types. We also finished the Vector review packet , and just started the Straight-line Motion packet

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Wednes-Day 1

Physics - we finished up the problems in the vector review packet.
Answers to all of the questions from this packet are posted on Blackboard, so check your work.
This review material will be tested next week.
We finished most of the remaining problems (B2 and C) in the June 2010 Regents.

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Tues-Day 2

Physics - we continued with the vector review packet, and did the B-2 problems in the June 2010 Regents.

The Displacement Vectors review lab is due in class on Friday.

Monday, May 9, 2011

Mon-Day 1

Physics - now that our class was back together today, here is a synopsis of the work done last Wednesday through Friday:
We worked on two things:
1. the Vector unit problems packet
2. the June 2010 Regents
Look on Blackboard for a copy of the vector packet (if you did not get one in class) and of the June 2010 physics regents; the work that we have done in class will be posted also.
Catch up on any problems that you were not present for in class.

We also did one review lab, which will be due on Friday. There is a copy of the lab posted on Blackboard; each of the review labs is paper only; the data will be provided. These labs count towards your lab quarter grade but NOT as credit towards sitting for the Regents. If you missed more than one lab per quarter, and I do not have the writeups from you for all but one lab per quarter, you are NOT sitting for the Regents because you did not meet the lab requirement. Make sure that you see me by Friday if you are unsure of your status.

Still recovering from AP prep - blog will be updated Sunday (probably).

Hey Buddy, who is going to win the Kentucky Derby?
Does anybody have any mints? My breath is killing me.

Me vs. the figurative Collegeboard!

Tues-Day 1

Physics - took the written response part of the Modern Physics unit exam.
We then started reviewing for the Regents by revisiting graphic vector addition.
We will go over some of the problems encountered.

Monday, May 2, 2011

Mon-Day 2

AP Chem - Congratulations! We made it to the finish line, and thank you for the painstaking and sometimes obsessive preparation that most of you put into preparing for today.
I am expecting good results as a result of the comeback that many of you made. The main goal that we have achieved (I hope) is that you gained a fundamental understanding of how and why various types of matter interact, and how that understanding can be applied to gain a greater understanding of everything that you encounter.
